Women of Glendale Community College Hosts Casual “Get to Know Yourself” Event – El Vaquero

The gathering seeks to create connection through conversation and food

Glendale Community College students who want to befriend other women are invited to attend a social event hosted by CalWORK Director Aarin Edwards on May 6 outside the San Rafael building at 2 p.m. time.

“Feel free to join you GCC sisters to chat, network and informally support female students and faculty,” Edwards told the GCC Community via email. She explained that there is no need to worry about planning her own lunch, as food will be provided. These foods include pastries, herbal teas, and regular and decaffeinated coffee. This is an in-person event, and all mask and vaccination policies will apply. Links to these COVID-19 prevention protocols can be found in the links at the end of the article.

Additionally, if anyone is concerned about eating their snacks in an enclosed space, they are free to move around the building socially distanced. One must reserve a place using their Glendale Community College email address using the provided Google Docs form found below.

According to a virtual interview with Edwards, her main motivation for organizing the event is to “ignore small cliques” and band together to become the “powerful force” that is women, Edwards said. It’s also “fun having coffee and snacks with a group of supportive women on a Friday,” Edwards said.

Additionally, she hopes attendees can make new friends or rekindle old friendships that may have been put on hold due to the pandemic. ” Most important, [we] I want to send a message to female students at GCC that this is a place where they can find support,” Edwards said.
