Lautner is co-owner of Psychic Teaz, a Maple Falls, Washington-based herbal tea company specializing in great-tasting tea flavors with a mission to help people everywhere “heal and feel better.”

How long has Psychic Teaz been in business?

Technically, Psychic Teaz was created seven years ago. Psychic Tea’s signature flavor is an original product designed by my husband, Daniel Muffoletto, ND (aka “Dr. Brains,” according to Oprah Winfrey), to help musicians stay mentally alert and physically balanced as they travel the country and celebrate warmly. . This flavor is an original Dr. Brains Herbal Alternatives product and has been around for decades.

Roughly 22 years later, with new packaging, logo recognition, multi-state retail locations, a stellar TV ad, four flavors (including Psychic Tea, Detox Chakras, More Love, and Champagne) and good humor , the Teazer team launched the company Psychic Teaz. into the stratosphere at the 2017 World Tea Expo in Las Vegas. At that point, after years of tweaking recipes based on customer feedback while selling at concerts, festivals, and owning a retail store, I knew I had created teas that were not only delicious but that helped people (according to their own testimonies) heal and feel better.

Where does the name “Psychic Teaz” come from?

The appointment of Psychic Teaz involved some thinking. The alternative spelling of teas attempts to add playfulness while indicating an alternative product. The word “psychic” is rooted in the Greek word psychikos and means “of the spirit” or “mind”.

In Greek mythology, the maiden Psyche was the deification of the human soul. We think Psychic Teaz is a perfect name because one theory is that humans are actually earth souls distracted or teased by their minds and senses.

How did you and Daniel prepare to enter the tea industry?

Prior to the official launch of Psychic Teaz, Daniel and I had gained knowledge and experience in the areas of holistic and health food marketing. Whether it was having booths at the Whole Foods and Products Expositions in Baltimore, Anaheim and Boston, our retail store in Seattle and Ellicott City or our international travels, we were aware and prepared for the necessary marketing steps .

I attach great importance to helping people. This is my inspiration and why I hope to reach millions. Herbs from nature to heal what ails you: That makes a lot of sense to me! I believe we are here as human beings to love and help. Positive customer feedback is extremely gratifying to me and inspires me to persevere.

What makes Psychic Teaz vital to the Maple Falls community?

For the past decade, Psychic Teaz has been based in Los Angeles, Oakland, and Bellevue. For four years, we have been permanently based in Maple Falls. We often practice the principle of “Think Globally, Act Locally” and have sold and donated a portion of the proceeds to our local Bigfoot Festival here in our small community of Maple Falls.

Psychic Teaz has also donated to Ava’s Heart, Fuller Gordy, 100,000 Cows, the Beverly Hills Lions Club and The Enlightenment Foundation. We also do many random acts of giving for families, animal rescue and our local East Whatcom Regional Resource Center. Our business knows no boundaries and is never relegated to positively impacting only local areas. Ours is a global community, and it is in this that we can mention our efforts to be supportive, inclusive and universally compassionate and generous.

What does managing Psychic Teaz look like amid the pandemic?

Compared to the loss of life, our challenges related to COVID-19 were minimal. In November 2019, we massively increased inventory and production due to strong demand and future prospects. We were confident that our business was growing and enthusiastically used the “reinvesting profits back into the business” model, which unfortunately proved extremely detrimental. Three months later, everything has changed.

I would hesitate to say that we overcame the challenges; however, we continue to give our tea. Our goal is and has always been our main motivation: to help others first.

How has inflation affected your business?

We had to restructure (significantly increase) our prices. Sales dropped 90%, forcing us to cut budgets across all departments. We face the hope and confidence that our good intentions will continue to provide.

What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own business?

The most valuable advice we can give anyone is to follow your heart. The most rewarding aspect of owning Psychic Teaz is that we can follow our hearts.
