I’m a sleep expert, three drinks to avoid if you want a good night’s sleep… and WATER is one of them

EVERYONE has experienced the frustration of a poor night’s sleep at one time or another.

But did you know that the types of drinks you consume before bed can have a huge impact on the quality of your sleep?

And while some of the drinks to avoid are obvious — like anything with caffeine — there’s one that might surprise you.

Water.

“In healthy young adults, your urine output is lower at night than during the day,” explained the Sleep Foundation website.

“It saves you from waking up at night to go to the bathroom.

“Drinking too much water in the evening can upset this balance.”

To avoid upsetting the balance, be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day to avoid becoming dehydrated.

“So drink less water in the evening to avoid going to the bathroom in the middle of the night,” the site adds.

The next drink to avoid is soda.

The majority of these drinks are full of caffeine and sugar, both of which can impact sleep.

A recent study found that people who consume a lot of sugar during the day wake up more frequently during the night.

And finally, while many people enjoy a glass of wine with their dinner, it’s a good idea to avoid drinking wine before bed.

This is because alcohol disrupts the body’s circadian rhythms – the 24-hour cycles that run as part of the body’s internal clock.

Wine, or any other alcohol in this area, affects the chemicals that make us sleepy and then go away once we’ve had enough sleep.

Instead of drinking water, soda, or wine before bed, consider trying hot milk, decaffeinated tea, or herbal tea.
