The Bates family is growing! Trace Bates is engaged to his girlfriend Lydia Romeike, We Weekly exclusively confirm.
The 25-year-old reality star popped the question on March 21 on the rooftop of the Embassy Suites hotel in Knoxville, Tennessee. The UPtv personality and Lydia, 24, were surrounded by two floral towers and romantic candles as Trace took a knee.
“It’s hard to describe the emotions you feel when you’re about to ask the girl of your dreams to marry you,” the son of Kelly and Gil Bates noted in an exclusive statement to We. “I just know that Lydia is my best friend, and she’s the most positive thing in my life. It’s hard to imagine going a day without seeing or talking to her. I knew I wanted her to be by my side for always, but planning where and how and all the details of the engagement was a task!
Trace continued: “I wanted the timing and setting to all be a huge surprise, so I was grateful for my sister’s help. Josie [Bates] and her friend Chloe. It’s hard to believe we’re finally engaged and planning our wedding!
Josie, 22, and their friend arranged the white bouquets that decorated the roof on the happy couple’s big day. Lydia, for her part, recounted We that she was “totally shocked” by the proposal.
“I thought Trace was in Nashville helping her brother Lawson renovate his newly purchased house,” the bride-to-be recalled. “He even sent me photos of him working in the house, which I later found out had been taken earlier just for the occasion. He asked our friend Chloe to hire me to do a photo shoot on the roof, so I really thought I was going to work.
The roof doors had been covered with a black curtain, but Lydia said she “didn’t even notice” this attempt to conceal the surprise. “When I opened the door, Trace was standing in her costume in front of this beautifully decorated backdrop and I think I stood there stunned for a few minutes,” she said. “Our song was playing over the hotel speakers, and Trace got down on her knees to propose.”
Lydia said We, “I don’t think I’ve ever admired him so much or been more speechless! He went through so many hoops and planned so hard to make this day perfect for me, and I feel so blessed to be preparing to marry someone who loves me so much. I am delighted !”
The newly engaged couple started dating in August 2021, confirming their romance via instagram this December. “So blessed to call you mine â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸,” Trace wrote at the time.
Weeks before marking their relationship milestone, Lydia shared a series of sweet snaps with her beau, gushing via instagram on March 7, “I love you more every day♥ï¸.” The official Bates Family account replied, “You all are so cute! ðŸ˜.”
Previously dated trace Chaney Kahleconfirming they started dating in September 2019. However, the duo called it quits the following February.
