Canelo Alvarez is following a strict vegan diet as he prepares to return to the 175-pound division against WBA champion Dmitry Bivol on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The pound-for-pound king seems optimistic about the results and praises the plant-based meals he has eaten.

A few days ago, several photos of light heavyweight Canelo took social media by storm, sending several fans into a frenzy. While Alvarez currently seems to have the perfect fighting physique, the vegan diet could be a good reason for that. In a conversation with ESPN Sportsthe Mexican star said:

“I feel very good, my body has adapted very well, I feel strong, my stomach is doing very well, I highly recommend it.”

Canelo Alvarez isn’t the first top athlete to promote plant-based diets. Tennis stars Novak Djokovic and Venus Williams have done the same, with several other personalities sounding in a similar setting.

For Canelo, this unique approach could be for this particular side as he has already sketched out plans for the future. Upon reaching a potential win over Dmitry Bivol, Alvarez will consider a trilogy matchup against Gennadiy Golovkin.

Canelo’s current conditions verify his potential in multiple weight classes. It wouldn’t be too shocking if he moved up the cruiserweight division as he was already planning a clash against 190-pound WBC champion Ilunga Makabu months ago. For that, Alvarez’s upcoming fight will be very important.

Canelo Alvarez is about to become an all-time legend

The 31-year-old Alvarez is already a four-division world champion, with an active resume of 57-1-2. It seems likely to remain active for several more years. And with his current activity, the Mexican star can deservedly reach a miraculous number on his record.

After winning the world heavyweight title, Alvarez would become a five-weight champion, cementing his place as an all-time legend. However, he seems to have already met the criteria. Mexico has always been the birthplace of countless legendary boxers, and Alvarez is clearly in the top spot on this list.

Alvarez is currently working with several promoters as a free agent. He is in agreement with Matchroom Promotions but could move to PBC or any other stable if offered the right name at the right price. This expands Canelo’s radar to capture the biggest fights of the era.
