When will the next episodes of Alchemy of Souls (3 and 4) be released on Netflix, and how has the new K-drama been rated around the world?
It’s a huge week for fans of Korean content on Netflix with the premiere of Money Heist: Korea, Café Minamdang and Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
However, all eyes are back on brand new fantasy action series Alchemy of Souls, which made its highly anticipated international debut last weekend.
Now, fans are curious to know what date and time episodes 3 and 4 will be released in their region, in addition to how the first series of adventures fared with audiences around the world?
Alchemy of Souls episode 3 and 4: Netflix release explained
Alchemy of Souls Episode 3 premieres Saturday, June 25e with episode 4 scheduled for Sunday, June 26e.
The new episodes first air on South Korean television channel tvN at 9:10 p.m. While Netflix simulcasts the series, Alchemy of Souls then releases new episodes for worldwide release approximately one hour after the national broadcast ends.
Episodes 3 and 4 of the new K-drama are expected to be available from the following international times, as per last weekend’s installment release:
- Pacific Time – 6:50 a.m.
- Eastern Time – 9:50 a.m.
- UK time – 2:50 p.m.
- European Time – 3:50 p.m.
- India Time – 7:20 p.m.
- Philippines Time – 9:50 p.m.
- Australia Time – 23:20
YouTube channel tvN Drama shared a short TV preview of Episode 3, with the caption “A confession that came to Hwang Min-hyun, who doubts the identity of Jung So-min?!”
What happened at the end of episode 2?
After Mu-deok is able to retrieve her infamous sword with Uk’s help, she is unable to unsheath the blade as she is still too weak from the soul transference to wield its immense power.
Distraught by what her life has become, she returns to Lake Gyeongcheondaeho, where she can draw the blade while surrounded by the lake’s water – which itself holds magical power.
Uk finds her by the lake but after Mu-deok collapses from drawing his sword, he decides to take her to the local infirmary. News spreads quickly that Uk has brought his injured maid to the clinic, which both confuses and surprises officials.
However, after he wakes up, Mu-deok poisons Uk’s herbal tea and he begins to convulse. The officials arrive just in time but Mu-deok refuses to tell them exactly what poison/antidote they need – explaining that the only way to save Uk is to open his energy door, which is strictly forbidden by his father. .
Park Jin begins torturing Mu-deok trying to find out the poison affecting Uk. Fortunately, Heo Yeom sees that her resolve is too strong to risk Uk’s life and opens her energy gate. he makes a quick recovery.
The episode ends with Uk untying Mu-deok and berating her for such a negligent plan. Just before passing out in his arms, Mu-deok calls Uk his student, indicating that she is ready to teach him spell control.
National and international ratings impress
Alchemy of Souls is in the rather precarious position of being in South Korea’s coveted weekend programming block. Luckily, the series seems to have exceeded many fans’ expectations and enjoyed incredible ratings domestically after its debut last week.
According to data from AGB Nielsen, episode 1 was watched by 1.294 million people, 5.2% of the national audience, rising to 1.516 million viewers for episode 2, or 5.8% of all viewers available.
Internationally, the series has also proven to be very popular with fans around the world. As of June 25eAlchemy of Souls scores a solid 7.1/10 on MyDramaList, 8/10 on IMDB, and 88% on AsianWiki.
